چکیده

Article history: Received 20 March 2008 Revised 17 November 2008 Available online 29 January 2009 Wavelet Trees have been introduced by Grossi et al. in SODA 2003 and have been rapidly recognized as a very flexible tool for the design of compressed full-text indexes and data compression algorithms. Although several papers have investigated the properties and usefulness of this data structure in the full-text indexing scenario, its impact on data compression has not been fully explored. In this paper we provide a throughout theoretical analysis of awide class of compression algorithmsbasedonWavelet Trees. Also, wepropose a novel framework, called Pruned Wavelet Trees, that aims for the best combination of Wavelet Treesofproperly-designedshapesandcompressors eitherbinary (like, Run-Length Encoders) or non-binary (like, Huffman and Arithmetic encoders). © 2009 Elsevier Inc. New algorithms on wavelet trees and applications to information retrieval

Wavelet trees are widely used in the representation of sequences, permutations, text collections, binary relations, discrete points, and other succinct data structures. We show, however, that this still falls short of exploiting all of the virtues of this versatile data structure. In particular we show how to use wavelet trees to solve fundamental algorithmic problems such as range quantile que...

The Whatness of ntellectual Virtues and their Relation to Ethical Virtues

Virtue is of the most important ethical concepts and among those few words including ethical propositions. Aristotle has divided virtues into two ethical and intellectual classes with regard to their purposes. It was known for him that intellectual virtues were stable features of soul which are used by the purpose of recognizing reality (truth). In virtue-oriented epistemology approach which h...

The Engineering of a Compression Boosting Library: Theory vs Practice in BWT Compression

Data Compression is one of the most challenging arenas both for algorithm design and engineering. This is particularly true for Burrows and Wheeler Compression a technique that is important in itself and for the design of compressed indexes. There has been considerable debate on how to design and engineer compression algorithms based on the BWT paradigm. In particular, Move-to-Front Encoding is...

Avicenna's Ethical Virtue

Avecinnachr('39')s ethical theory is classified within ethical virtue-oriented theories. He begins his ethical theory by discussing salvation as the ultimate purpose of human life. In his viewpoint, ultimate salvation of human is achieved though "closeness to God almighty". The way of reaching closeness is perfection in practice and opinion. Therefore, human real salvation is in his perfection ...
